Worlds of Fun
USA 2014 Blog Day 9
How y’all doing back there? We were woken this morning at 06:15am to the sound of thunder and the rain was coming down for the first time on the trip...Booooo! Kansas City was in for a wet morning by the look of things, and we arrived at the park ready for our 09:30 entry and our car was the only one in the whole car par as it appeared the weather had kept everyone away...great no queues! Platinum pass holders have a half hour early ride session until 10:00 on 2 selected rides which we were told were Detonator and Scrambler. We headed over to Detonator and waited...and waited...but it looked very closed and no ride operators in sight. About 20 minutes passed when someone told us that the early rides had changed and it was now Mamba – the parks 200ft Steel Hypercoaster, which we were pleased about as our server in Applebee’s restaurant last night actually suggested that we ought to ride Mamba – like 2 coaster enthusiasts we not planning to anyway!!!
By the time we walked over it was 10:00 so no early ride session and could have stayed in bed a little longer – DOH! We got straight on the front seat as there was still no-one else was in the park, however this wasn’t the best idea as travelling at high speed in the rain can be quite uncomfortable. At around 10:30 the rain stopped, the temperature started rising and the blue skies were back. Next stop was ‘Prowler’ one of two wooden coaters in the park, which we rode in 2010 and raved about how great it was especially in the dark. We had quite a few rides as we were allowed to stay in our seats to re-ride and it was riding as good as ever, so couldn’t wait for the night session as the park wasn’t due to close until 10:00pm.
There were very few people in the park all day so took advantage of the tiny queues and also both took a solo flight on Rip Cord – the parks sky coaster which was great fun. We spent the last 1½ on Prowler and this coaster in the dark is what the word AWESOME was invented for! This is easily our number one favourite woodie and the atmosphere was great as everyone was in party spirit, and we couldn’t have had a better ending to this great day.
